Viennese fortepiano after Stein, 1784. Made by David Sutherland, 1974, from components designed and made by Frank Hubbard, circa 1975.
Five octaves, FF-fff. Ebony covered naturals, bone capped accidentals. Original stringing in brass and Hubbard tinned, hard-drawn iron wire. Case and components finished in cherry. Rests on four solid cherry fluted legs. 
Restorative work in 2013 included the replacement of the original wooden capstans with plated brass capsels furnished by Marc Vogel, the replacement of the beak leather, re-hinging of the prells, and the fabrication of an upgraded spring rail with brass wire springs. As was customary at the time of its construction, contact cement was used to affix the veneer to the case. There is, subsequently, some minor bubbling and lifting between the veneer seams, however, the instrument presents well. Responsive action. Hammers to be releathered and action fully regulated prior to delivery. Further upgrades available upon request (restringing in historical wire, addition of moderator, etc.)

German Double manual harpsichord after Meitke, made by Bruce Kennedy, 2008, Opus 148. Pristine condition. One owner, meticulously maintained and kept in climate controlled, smoke free studio since new.

This exquisite instrument has a range of 61 notes, FF-fff, with ebony covered naturals and bone capped accidentals. Transposing keyboard, 392/415/440. Strung in brass throughout, pearwood jacks with holly tongues. Voiced in white Delrin plectra.

Case finished in matte black, with cherry keywell, jackrail and soundboard surround. Underside of lid finished in matte rust color. Rests on a trestle stand with turned legs. The action has been thoroughly regulated, and is precise, consistent and responsive.

Flemish Single For Sale

 

This instrument was made by Willard Martin in 1988. It has a range of 55 notes, GG-ddd (minus GG#) with a disposition of 8'x8'/buff. Transposing key, 392/415/440 with ebony covered naturals and bone capped accidentals. It features pearwood jacks with bottom capstans. The keywell and soundboard surround is adorned with seahorse patterned Flemish block paper, and a fully decorated soundboard by Pamela Gladding. The case and components are finished in matte black with banded dark green panels. The underside of the lid is finished in a matte rust color. It rests on a solid, turned oak trestle stand. The nameboard is inscribed: "Opus WillarT Martinus/Faciebat Pennsylvaniae/ A.D. MCMLXXXVIII." It's dimensions are: 72" long, 32.5" wide, 9.5" deep.

 

This instrument underwent complete restoration in my workshop in April, 2024, where it was restrung in Malcolm Rose English iron and brass. Voiced in black Delrin plectra with new reinforced wool cloth dampers. The action has been thoroughly regulated, and is precise, consistent and responsive. The keyboard has been overhauled, with the balance point mortises having been resized and has been cleaned, polished, squared and leveled. The case, stand and components are in excellent condition, showing very slight wear on case corners. The instrument has been regularly maintained, and kept in a climate controlled environment.
