The making of this fortepiano, after Stein, was begun circa 1995-2000 by Peter Fisk. The case had been assembled, and the soundboard, bridge, nut and wrestplank had also been installed. There was no action or damper assembly, and the case, music desk, legs., etc. were not veneered or finished.
A new keyboard, action and damper
assembly was custom made by J. Jacob Kaeser, and the instrument was completed
by Antiquarian Keyboard Instruments in March, 2023.
Newly veneered and finished in mahogany, it is strung in Malcolm Rose English brass paired with Stephen Birkett “P” iron wire.
Bichord throughout, its range is FF-fff, and is equipped with a moderator operated by a handstop. This is a stable, concert quality instrument, with a precise, responsive action and wide dynamic range.
